For the past 30 years, the focus of Junction Kennels has been the superior training and handling of show dogs. JK's founder, Amanda J. Brown, literally grew up at dog shows spending her time as an infant in an x-pen rather than a play pen at the edge of the show ring and in the grooming area. This total submersion in the dog show world led her to start showing dogs at the age of two, much younger than most other youth handlers start out. She showed one of her sister's dogs, as well as the clients' dogs of her sister, starting at that age. She was too young to enter in Junior Handler competition, thus she was placed in the open show ring with much success in the toy breeds. She quickly had her own string of show dogs to compete with almost every weekend. By the age of six, she was grooming all of the show dogs herself and had weekend job at one of the top Shih Tzu Kennels in the South East (Cherry Hill Kennels).
The "bug" had bitten her at this young age and it would not go away. She studied each of the AKC's groups and the breeds within them adding to her show string each year. She gained valuable experience in grooming by operating a grooming salon out of her home from the age of 8. As she grew older, she focused more on training for specialty events and for productions, such as movies, videos, commercials, and photo shoots. Eventually she stopped showing in the conformation ring to focus on these other parts of the dog industry and to continue with her other long time passion ~ horses. The horses eventually reduced the dog industry portion of her life to a minimum where it would stay for several years.
Desiring to become more active in dogs again, she began offering dog training to clients again in 2000. In 2002, she returned back to the AKC conformation ring, and in 2006, she begin a new part of competition with entering the UKC conformation ring. Since then she has qualified numerous dogs for the National Championships in both registries and shown at the prestigous Eukanuba National Championships. She has also had the honor of handling and ranking some of the Top Ten and Number One dogs in the country.
